Slow-motion when viewing + editing recordings#38

D

It is helpful to view videos in slow motion for fast-paced games, and an option for slow-motion would help with reviewing clips.

I agree very much. Here’s another idea: This is probably way out of the scope for Medal, but… what if we could have optical flow frame interpolation for slow motion? THAT would make Medal the TOP clipping software of all time.

It would be very helpful to review clips frame by frame (left & right arrow keys)

I’ve set this as researching as I’d like to know more about what you all would like.

Currently we have playback speed as an option in our video player, you can see it on medal.tv. If you would like more slow-motion features like actual slow-mo filters during editing, that is something else that we are looking into!

Slow motion inside the editor, with the intent of creating a slow-motion clip, isn’t quite what I was hoping for with this feature. Technically the slow motion does what I want, but with way more button presses than I want. Currently you have to create a clip, navigate to that clip, then apply the slow motion filter…as opposed to what I want which is just one button to toggle the playback speed.

I used to use Plays.TV to review League of Legends matches, and with League being a very fast game, it can help to slow down the playback to 0.25 or 0.125 speed to see how skills/spells interacted together in (typically) less than 1 second sections of a recording. Plays.TV had a simple toggled button when looking at a full-session recording to slow the playback for this purpose, no need to edit a clip.

I think the disconnect here is that I want a slow-motion feature just for me when reviewing a full-session recording, whereas the current feature was created with the intent of sharing a slow-motion clip with others by posting an edited clip.

Hey so we actually do support playback speed! ⚡ We could probably have the experience a bit more obvious, but here’s a video and steps on how to change it currently.

  1. Hover any clip thumbnail (even in the FSR editor and feed)
  2. Select the settings cog icon
  3. Select Playback Speed
  4. Select the speed you want

Here’s an image of what cory is showing above. We can make this more obvious in the ui maybe

Aha! This is great! I should have thought to check the cog - playback speed must have been a recent addition. Thank you!

Looks like we’ve had it since May of 2021! Guess we need to do a better job of showing what’s new 😬

Hey all, going to close this out. If you feel that the editor slow motion and/or the slowmo playback on clips outside of the editor aren’t what you are looking for, send me a DM or create a new feedback card! @Brandersnatcher#6697
