Button dedicated to deleting original clip#2552

I take 15 minute clips and usually end up editing it into several smaller clips in one. But looking at my file explorer, the 15 minute clips are still there.
I understand you can “make a new clip” but I’m not retitling the hundred(s) of clips I have, not to mention that it COMPLETELY reset the metadata (such as the date, and servername, etc.)

Being able to remove the original clip without it corrupting the ability to view the edit, or having a button in the clip viewer to delete the original clip would be great.

You can now “Save” (which overwrites the original trim) or “Save As” (which creates a new clip from your trim)

Hi, the issue with your approach to this functionality, is that when you “Save as a copy” you create a new file thus overwriting the original date of the clip? You should at least use the date placed in the name of the file to sort the new copy by its original date

I can manually go to windows photos, trim the video, reload medals library and the now permanently edited clip will still be there with the correct date

I agree with Omster. To my understanding, this problem really wasn’t addressed whatsoever. It essentially makes it one step less to the problem I was originally having;
“I understand you can “make a new clip” but I’m not retitling the hundreds of clips I have, not to mention that it COMPLETELY reset the metadata”

Why would I reset the date and titles to a library that goes years back, due to a simple trim because I’m forced to ‘save as copy?’ in an attempt to save space, and then have to go BACK into my library to REFIND the video to THEN delete it? Come on guys.

Trimming a video without keeping the original shouldn’t be a 7 step process! (not exaggerating, 7, to do it the way you intended, which still completely wipes the original date and title!)

Anyways, the “Restore Original” button is still present after using “Save” instead of “..As copy”. This is my main issue, I’m trimming my clips to a shorter segment so I can save space on my drives and simply trim out the section that was irrelevant. This gets repetitive, real quick, especially when you have to keep track of where the original video was located after pressing “Save as copy” in order to delete it.

Additionally, it’s rather counterintuitive when you use the “Save” button, as it makes a copy of the full clip but trimmed. This results in taking up even more space then it was originally.

There’s gotta be some simple solution on your end. Perhaps a setting that’s OFF by default which allows the user to enable “Automatically delete originals from trimmed clips after __ days”, or… a button to delete the original clip right alongside the ‘restore original’ (or next to the delete button)

Or better yet, a third option when pressing “Save edits”, “Overwrite original with edit”, which would prevent 3 unnecessary steps to the user.

I’m guessing theres a particular reason why the original clip is saved– maybe instead of deleting it outright, just clear its contents.

I tried out that theory because now I’m getting desperate as I have 300+ GB in my medal clips folder, but I’m afraid if it would end up corrupting/breaking how the videos appear in my medal library with future updates. Otherwise, I would’ve made a python script to automatically ‘clear the contents’ of the originals that have been trimmed.
