Don't limit clip length to 20 minutes#2516

Sometimes i want to post a whole match i played, but medal doesn’t allow me to.
Please, lift this artificial limit!

Here’s if anyone doesn’t know about this arbitrary limit:

Our limits for uploads are currently 2 minutes for non-premium users and 10 minutes for premium users. Storing video files in the cloud is expensive so we have to set some limits. We’re looking into potentially increasing it though.

hey! like eivindrs mentioned, we don’t allow for longer than 10min posts on medal.

Also just to clarify what you want to do, is trim a part of that full patch, in order to post it somewhere else?

We will consider tweaking things to allow for that kind of edits.

But for the time being if you right click -> open file location on that video in your library you will be able to grab the video file and edit it in another editor

Yes, I am posting the clips mostly on my own YT channel for myself.
As such, the 20 minute limit applies to me sometimes, and opening another editor just to be able to clip out a longer segment is pretty lame.

The upload limit is understandable, but for local storage, i don’t see the problem.

Would be great to see that fixed!

I thought you meant specifically for posting the 20 min clip. But yeah, we will look into this limit with creating a clip from a full session recording.

Wouldn’t it just be a better idea for the Medal team to like be able to embed a YT upload in the feed so they don’t have to store incredibly long footage for what is designed as a clipping platform and not the next Youtube?

@Omstertron Hey, you seem to have misunderstood the suggestion.
I just want to be able to cut out pieces of footage longer than 20 mintues from the local recordings, inside of the medal clip cutter.

I am not talking about hosting those cuts on their servers, as you said it is a clipping platform. One which i don’t really use, I mostly cut out the more interesting parts of my gameplay and post them on youtube myself.

I can open the raw recordings in other video editing software, but that is one step that could be removed if the team implement my idea.

But pondering more on something your comment reminded me of; Outplayed has a feature that allows you to post your clips and videos on different social media platforms such as outplayed tv or indeed, YT.

It asks you to log in for permission, and after that it lets you much more easily post the clips to your channel, at the cost of more detailed posting options which i never needed.

I will see if it’s an idea here already, if not i have something to add ig.
